Benard Kimara

Security specialist, Doha Qatar

My names are Benard Kimara..I bless God for the opportunity to share a bit of my story…well I came to Qatar in the year 2013 through a licensed manpower agency.I had been recruited by one of the security companies based here as a normal Security officer. Life at first was both intriguing and tough at the same time due to the harsh weather conditions.

As time went on I adapted and gelled in to became part of the expatriate community out here. After an year or so the management of the company I work with saw I had potential in me and started to raise me in ranks as well as offer specialized trainings in both Safety and security field. This is a common practice that’s done to Kenyans by different companies given that Kenyans are first learners. Later on I was assigned to head a Security team at one of the biggest malls here(Ezdan mall)with a capacity of 30,000 people per footfall. This turned out to become one of my biggest challenges to ever face In my career and at the same time a big blessing. I would later be assigned as a specialist to head other security teams around Doha including Aljazeera media Hq where I’m currently stationed and the Power and water company services called Karhama.

Being here has enabled me to sharpen my skills in the Security field due to the exposure I get especially with the authorities and the member of the armed forces I’ve gotten…

…I’ve even become bilingual given the nature of the difference nationalities and communities based here. This has also sharpened my leadership skills in different platforms including the. One of the other advantages I’ve found compared to the other gulf countries is the freedom to worship.Because of this I have easily early this year I was able to graduate with an associate degree in Theological and Biblical Studies.Currentry I and a few are pursuing a master’s degree in the same.Money wise working in Qatar allows us to have better savings and investments since there’s no much spending here.

I bless God for everything…and allow me to add this …Because of this I have been able to make some few investments, pay for my college school fees and last year on December I went back home and married the love of my life…Soon after that God favored me and I managed to get my wife over here…”Had God not opened that Door for me through a licensed Agency to travel to Qatar most likely I would be languishing in poverty”.
